Yuzzu sells four levels of car cover, from liability only to full omnium (omnium is the Belgian term for own-damage cover), but since 1 January 2026 it no longer insures anyone itself: AXA Belgium carries the risk, Yuzzu underwrites and manages. The exclusions in its 2026 sheet, tyres and rims first, matter more than the name on the green card.
Is Yuzzu still an insurance company?
No.
The motorcycle information document Yuzzu published in October 2024 still described it as an "approved insurance company" under code 1455 with the National Bank of Belgium, for branches 1a, 3, 10a, 17 and 18 among others. The car sheet dated 1 January 2026 says something else: Yuzzu is "recognised by the FSMA as a mandated underwriter on behalf of AXA Belgium S.A. (0039)", listed in the intermediaries register under number 0456.511.494. The FSMA is the Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority.
The letter sent to customers on 15 December 2025, co-signed by the chief executives of Yuzzu and AXA Belgium, states it plainly: Yuzzu trades its insurer status for that of an intermediary, AXA Belgium becomes the customers' insurer, and "the offer, the guarantees and therefore the contract conditions do not change". To check which entity carries your risk, the National Bank's list of approved insurance companies and the FSMA register are authoritative.
Which car formulas does Yuzzu offer?
Four, stacked: each takes the previous one and adds a guarantee. The table follows the January 2026 information sheet, reference TCAR08.
| Guarantee | Liability only | Mini omnium | Omnium essentium | Full omnium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Damage caused to third parties | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Glass, fire, natural forces, animal collision, theft | No | Yes, in principle | Yes, in principle | Yes, in principle |
| Total loss after an accident | No | No | Yes, in principle | Yes, in principle |
| Repair after an at-fault accident | No | No | No | Yes, in principle |
| Vandalism | No | Not named | Not named | In principle, as material damage |
Vandalism appears nowhere in the sheet. I place it under material damage, so in full omnium, because that is how this type of contract works; only the definition in the general conditions can confirm it for your policy. Our article on vandalism shows how much that line varies from one insurer to another.
Does omnium essentium pay for a repairable bump?
In principle, no. It is the costliest misunderstanding in the range.
Essentium covers total loss "resulting from a material damage claim", not the material damage itself. Take a small car insured for 12,000 euros that reverses into a post: 2,500 euros of bodywork, car repairable, the bill in principle stays with you, whereas full omnium would have paid it, minus the excess. If the same impact cost 11,000 euros to repair, the car would probably be written off and essentium would apply, depending on the threshold set in the general conditions, which I could not read for this product. The mechanism is the same at Belfius and Ethias, under other names.
Tyres, rims, belongings: which omnium exclusions apply?
The January 2026 sheet lists six, valid for mini omnium, essentium and full omnium:
- damage to tyres and rims;
- accessories not permanently fixed to the vehicle;
- personal effects and belongings carried;
- damage to the car when it is rented out;
- theft or attempted theft when the car was left unlocked, unattended, in an unsecured place, or when committed by someone living in the policyholder's household;
- damage caused by a change in the structure of the atom, the standard nuclear clause.
On top of that, every option excludes bets, challenges and contests, gross negligence as listed in the general conditions, and driving by someone who does not meet legal requirements. A tyre burst in a pothole therefore stays at your expense under omnium, in principle, and so does the rim.
The sheet adds a rule few people notice. If you declared an insured value that is too low, a proportional rule applies. Illustrative example: declared value 18,000 euros, value that should have been declared 24,000 euros, damage 6,000 euros; the payout falls to 6,000 × 18,000 / 24,000, that is 4,500 euros, before the excess. The value concepts are explained in our article on market, agreed and new-for-old value.
Does Yuzzu liability cover without options include anything beyond third parties?
Yes, three extensions included in the premium, each with a narrow scope. Accident assistance covers towing and repatriation of occupants after an immobilisation following an accident in Belgium, plus a replacement car for the normal repair period, but only if repairs are done at a garage approved by the insurer. The BOB guarantee (BOB is the Belgian name for the designated sober driver) covers that driver's injuries and the damage they cause to the insured car. The Yuzzu Europe guarantee tops up compensation for an insured person injured in Western Europe to match what they would have received in Belgium.
On the liability side, the sheet excludes in particular goods carried professionally for payment, damage caused solely by goods carried or their handling, and authorised races.
Is breakdown assistance included?
No, it is bought separately. The sheet distinguishes three assistance options that can be taken independently: accident (replacement vehicle), breakdown, abroad. Breakdown and accident assistance apply in Belgium and up to 50 km beyond the borders; assistance abroad covers the car in the European Union. One exclusion matters here more than any other: a service arranged without the assistance provider's prior agreement is not covered. Calling a tow truck yourself on the motorway means, in principle, paying alone. Our comparison of breakdown cover details this trap at other insurers.
Six situations, six answers
| Situation | Formula that applies in principle | Before signing |
|---|---|---|
| Cracked windscreen | Mini omnium and above | Ask for the glass excess outside an approved repairer |
| At-fault bump, car repairable | Full omnium only | Compare the cost of full omnium with the car's value |
| Car written off after an at-fault accident | Omnium essentium or full omnium | Read the total loss threshold in the general conditions |
| Rim and tyre damaged on a kerb | None | Accept the risk or look for a contract that covers it |
| Bag stolen from the back seat | None under omnium | Check your home insurance |
| Breakdown on the E411 | Breakdown assistance option | Save the assistance number in your phone |
Can you meet Yuzzu anywhere other than online?
Yes. Several comparison sites describe Yuzzu as an "online-only" insurer with no in-person contact; its own December 2025 letter nevertheless lists six offices, at Tour & Taxis and rue Royale in Brussels, in Charleroi, Liège, Antwerp and Hasselt. The quote is online, the conversation can be face to face. To place this channel against brokers and banks, see our article direct insurer or broker.
How do you leave Yuzzu?
Like any Belgian car contract governed by the Act of 4 April 2014 on insurance (in French): at the latest two months before the annual renewal date, or at any time after the first contract year, with two months' notice, by registered letter, bailiff's notice or letter handed over against receipt. The guide to cancelling car insurance sets out the steps.

To set these guarantees against other contracts, the comparison tool lines up formulas row by row, the ranking of the best car insurers details what each company covers and excludes, and the quiz helps you choose between mini omnium and full omnium depending on the car's age. To read your own policy, our method for specific conditions takes ten minutes.
The documents quoted are public: the Yuzzu car information sheet of January 2026 (in French) and the letter to customers of 15 December 2025 (in Dutch), read on 17 October 2026. In case of disagreement over the scope of a guarantee, the Insurance Ombudsman, the Belgian free dispute service for insurance consumers, reviews complaints at no cost.
